Blog Reflection 1: STEM Expert
The STEM expert I chose is Rodney D. Nielsen, a professor in the College of Information at the University of North Texas. His work focuses on artificial intelligence and natural language processing, which is basically about teaching computers how to understand and work with human language. His research connects technology, language, and learning, which makes it really relevant to my major.
Why I Chose This Expert
I chose Dr. Nielsen because the College of Information is also my major, so his work directly connects to what I am studying. I know AI is only going to keep advancing in the future, and it will have a big impact on our work lives and how we learn. I also find it interesting to think about how AI affects authenticity, creativity, and critical thinking, especially as people rely on it more for writing, problem-solving, and decision-making. His research made me think more about how AI can be used as a tool without completely replacing human thought and creativity.
Summary of the Expert’s Work
Dr. Nielsen’s research focuses on natural language processing, which allows computers to read, understand, and respond to human language. This kind of technology is used in things like search engines, chatbots, and learning tools. His work helps improve how AI understands meaning and context, which can make technology more useful in education and information systems. At the same time, it raises important questions about how people continue to think critically and creatively while using advanced AI tools.
